So Gordon Brown is taken to the cleaners by Joanna Lumley, although there is no doubt of the sincerity and determination of this lady. She strongly believes in the cause and is prepared to stand up for what is right!
I was concerned when the first statements from this government talked about 'all Gurkhas who had served for more than four years would have their case reviewed'. I am cynical enough about Labour to know that this would not necessarily mean that any would be allowed to stay in the UK, just that their cases would be reviewed!
Jacqui Smith is quoted as saying that she was "proud to offer this country's welcome to all who have served in the brigade of Gurkhas". If this really is the case then why did she not go public before, or does she, like many politicians, keep quiet when their leaders are doing the wrong thing?
Gordon Brown was wrong to restrict Gurkha's rights to stay in the UK when soldiers from the Commonwealth who served with UK troops were allowed to live in the UK. To accept the principle with Commonwealth soldires but refuse it to Gurkhas is simply hypocritical!
Well done Joanna Lumley!
